2007 National Service Project
The Board voted this month to select the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Military Care Package effort as our Chapter Service Project for 2007. When soldiers serving in Iraq or Afghanistan are injured or disabled, they are airlifted to Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany, the largest American hospital outside the United States. Their mission is “To provide world class comprehensive and compassionate care to our Nation’s Warriors, their families, retirees and all other directed beneficiaries, while maintaining unit and personal readiness to meet the demands of our Nation.”
The Lancaster County Chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association is proud to assist DAR in their support of the Pastoral Services Department at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center as part of our 2007 Service Project. One facet of Pastoral Services' care is supplying patients with clothing, shoes and personal products which will make their stay comfortable. Many soldiers arrive at the Center, located about 90 minutes from Frankfurt, with no clothing other than the hospital garments that they're wearing. For the next 12 months, the Chapter will be collecting items to send overseas in military care packages for distribution at the Medical Center in Landstuhl.
